When you’re looking for profitable
products for your business and you research items other people are
selling successfully on eBay, instead of looking for products
similar to theirs, look for complementary products that will benefit
those other people’s customers and which in some cases are
absolutely essential to buyers. I’m reminded of
mega-marketer Bill Myers suggesting goods to complement his own best
selling products, in one case he mentions writing and publishing a
book of juice recipes to sell to people buying juice makers.
Alternatively, the product you source
might help people acquire similar products at much lower cost than
their hot selling counterparts on eBay.
Apply that theory to eBay by looking for
items to accompany current hot selling products in one or two or
more eBay categories. Do this by visiting the Pulse Pages,
look bottom of the page where you’ll find currently most visited
listings, then click inside a few to calculate sales figures for
some of those products in the last few weeks.
For example, currently bottom of the page
at http://pulse.ebay.co.uk are two listings for sheds. That’s
almost certainly because winter is coming and that’s when people
look for sheds to store bulbs and furniture, hanging baskets and
garden ornaments, alongside other paraphernalia bought for their
gardens during the summer months.
So sheds are currently just one popular
product for which buyers might needs an accompanying product or
which may suggest an altogether different product for you to source.
This is a great game to play, given those
two shed listings show that one eBayer sold 26 sheds in the last
four months at £695 each, the other sold 241 sheds in the same four
month period at just under £200 apiece.
We may not want to sell sheds, though for
the life of me I can’t work out why, but at least we know the market
is hot for sheds right now. So how about selling wood
preservative, for example, to protect those sheds, or additional
shelving, or roofing?
And the fact there’s a recession going on
is probably the reason more people bought those cheaper sheds than
others costing almost four times more. Do you think other
people wanting sheds might like to save more money on their
forthcoming acquisition? Certainly they would, and for me the
best way to serve those people is by promoting plans showing how to
create their own shed or have someone else make it for them. I
suspect that’s why a solitary Classified Ad. on eBay.com features
one of ClickBank’s most popular products, about making sheds and
other garden structures, and by the look of it that Classified Ad.
is doing very well indeed. There’s another idea that can be
applied across a wide range of eBay categories, sub-categories, and
individual products.
Back to eBay UK’s Pulse Pages, let’s turn
now to ‘Consumer Electronics’, where bottom of the page you’ll find
two of the currently most visited listings are for Plasma TV Wall
Brackets, of which one listing sold 1,137 at £49.99 apiece in the
last three months, the other has sold 2,146 of a bracket priced at
£29.99. Here’s the surprise, both sales are from the same
person! Lucky man! But looking further I find thousands
of TV brackets selling on eBay each month and that makes me wonder
what else those people might require which is not yet offered on
eBay.
No I don’t have a product in mind for
people buying plasma TV wall brackets on eBay, but there will be one
and it’s your job to find it, along with complementary products for
thousands of other best selling items you’ll find from regular
visits to eBay Pulse Pages.
